The Tragic Murder and Haunting of the Old Lincoln Academy
The old site where the Lincoln Academy once stood, near Kings Mountain, North Carolina, is home to a tragic murder and haunting. Kathleen Smiley, from Atlanta, was found tied to a tree near the abandoned building on April 21, 1974, many years after the historic academy closed its doors. Her vehicle, discovered just seventy-five feet from the tree, was engulfed in flames by local authorities in that area.
Reports of paranormal activity on the grounds include the sounds of crying, shadowy figures, changes in temperatures, mists and smoke, unexplained footsteps and other sounds, and disembodied voices.
