Old State Road is one of the most haunted in South Carolina. During the Battle of Congaree Creek in 1865, Union troops slaughtered Confederate soldiers in this area. Some say you can still hear people walking and falling into the creek. Apparitions have been reported to carry lanterns in the darkness on this stretch of road.
But that’s not all. The old road is home to another legend, known as ‘Ole Redeye’. The Phantom is swift and is reported to move as fast as vehicles. People have described the spooky specter with glowing red eyes staring through their window as they tried to escape.
It sounds like Old State Road is the “life” of the party.
