The “Hauntingly” Beautiful Boone Hall Plantation

If you believe online reports, the Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant may be one of the more haunted locations in the Charleston area. Major John Boone founded the plantation before it was sold to John and Henry Horlbeck. Over the years, many have stated that the people who once called this place home may still be there, in spirit.

The Horlbeck brothers expanded the property, with some reports as many as 225 enslaved people working there, operating dangerous kilns. A kiln is a thermally insulated chamber, much like an oven, that uses hot temperatures to harden, dry, or chemically change materials.

According to legend, numerous sightings have occurred on the grounds near the kiln. Supposedly, the spirits of a former enslaved girl and a young boy are the most commonly spotted.
