The Haunted National Homestead Orphanage

Located at 777 Baltimore Street in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the National Homestead Orphanage is rumored to be haunted by not only its dark past but also by the spirits said to walk its hallways still.

After the Civil War, in late 1866, the doors to this place opened as a sanctuary for children, but soon darkness descended upon it. In 1867, Ulysses S. Grant was photographed visiting the property, with a picture taken of him with orphans at the entrance.

Soon, stories began to circulate of the alleged dungeon in the basement, where children were kept and chained for days as a form of punishment.

Today, those same cries are heard drifting through the cold walls inside, and some have reported seeing small ghostly figures, mysterious orbs of light, and faint laughter echoing.
