Nestled in the rolling hills of Wise County, Virginia, sits an abandoned orphanage, where nature has slowly taken over through the years.
Little history is known about the old Wise County Orphanage, but some believe that the spirits of people who once lived there are still walking amongst the living.

No significant events are recorded or even available, such as fires or accidents. It is believed that it was operational in the very early 1900s and closed sometime in the late 1920s. After it was abandoned, the building fell into disrepair and was left to rot. The unhappy memories that were created inside slowly escaped into the thin mountain air of Virginia, like smoke on a cold Appalachian night.
But many of these places were considered bad news for children, who were forced to live in them, and the tales and legacy of the old Wise County Orphanage live on in local folklore.
Reportedly, people who have gone near this building have claimed that the spirits, who once inhabited the grounds, never left.
Visitors have claimed that night is the worst time, because you can hear giggles of unseen children and echoes of bouncing balls, and mysterious lights have been seen moving through the premises.
It has been reported that people have seen ghostly figures in the windows, despite knowing the old building is completely empty.
These claims have earned the site the title of one of the most haunted places in Virginia.
