One place in Alexandria, Virginia, is the site of a curious mystery that has left many wondering who the stranger that allegedly haunts these grounds is.
Gadsby’s Tavern Museum was initially built as a tavern and inn. In 1816, a young woman and her husband traveled to Alexandria on a ship. While on the journey, the woman contracted a disease that led both of them to the inn to rest.
Once the couple reached Gadsby’s Tavern, her health deteriorated quickly, and she soon found herself on death’s door. People quickly gathered around as the young woman took her last breaths on earth, and she made all of the people in attendance to witness her death to swear an oath never to reveal her identity.

To this day, no one knows who the mystery couple was. She is buried at St. Paul’s Cemetery, with a gravestone that reads, “Female Stranger.”
Room 8 is reportedly where she died, and is said to be a hotbed of paranormal activity.
It is reported that visitors have encountered apparitions, unexplained sounds, and even witnessed objects moving on their own.
