The Haunted Sachs Bridge of Gettysburg

Sachs Bridge is located on Waterworks Road in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The bridge was constructed around 1854 by David S. Stoner and stretches 100 feet across Marsh Creek.

While the bridge is a picturesque place to be in 2025, the haunted history mixed with the smell of death that occurred on these grounds in 1863 during the Civil War is enough to make the nonbeliever a believer.

The bridge served as a pivotal crossing point during the war. On July 3, 1863, the Confederate forces retreated from the area, wounded across Sachs Bridge, as they headed to regroup. It has even been suggested that the bridge was used to transport weapons and supplies.

People who have visited this area have encountered ghostly soldiers, believed to be Confederate soldiers, the smell of cigar smoke, shadowy figures, seeing lanterns swinging into the dead of night, and even footsteps.

Eerie Pennsylvania is now loaded as a category on our website.
