One bridge in Union County, South Carolina, has reported strange happenings at night. A couple of legends surround the Gist Bridge. One story says a baby was thrown over the side and still haunts paranormal thrill seekers to this day with cries at night. It is rumored that if you park in the middle of the bridge and put your car in neutral, it will roll uphill. Some believe it’s the spirit of the deceased child pushing you off the bridge.

According to Charlestonterrors, the bridge has an even darker side. “Local legend says that once, Gist Bridge was the site of one of the nation’s foulest crimes. In the late 19th century, a man, after his wife had passed away, gathered all his kids and drove to the middle of the bridge. He told them to get out, lined each one, a total of six against the bridge’s railings, and then gunned them down at point-blank range. The impact of the bullets drove them back, and they stumbled off the bridge into the river down below. “Who’s got the time to feed so many mouths,” he later said. People believe that it’s the spirit of those kids, and not an optical illusion, that pushes folk’s cars uphill. This is why many think Gist Bridge is one of the most haunted spots in South Carolina.”
Regardless of which legend you believe, it is a creepy spot to visit at night. Have you ever visited this infamous bridge?
