The “Pink Lady” of the Omni Grove Park Inn

North Carolina boasts numerous attractions and activities, ranging from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the beautiful beaches, with points in between. Some of these can be accomplished with a day trip, while others will leave you looking for a nice hotel to retire for the night.

If you enjoy traveling, Asheville is a vibrant town in Western North Carolina, offering a variety of restaurants, attractions like the Biltmore, stunning panoramic mountain views, and rich history. It also has plenty of haunts if you enjoy a good scare.

The Omni Grove Park Inn is a beautiful and historic landmark. Built in 1913 by Edwin Wiley Grove and his son-in-law Fred Loring Seely, the hotel has served several famous icons, including several US presidents. Many have come and gone, but there is one who allegedly seems fond of the Grove Park Inn that she decided to stick around for about 100 years or so.

Pick any vacant room you’d like, but staying in room 545 will require you to share the space with the Pink Lady. Some say the ghostly woman has been helpful to those who need assistance, and many don’t realize she’s deceased until after their interactions with her! She’s a friendly and playful spirit, known for playing with children and even messing with light switches.

There are quite a few people, however, who are not very fond of the Pink Lady’s antics. Curt Davis, an evening resort manager for the inn, had a horrifying run-in with the disembodied spirit that caused all of the energy in his body to leave. The hairs on his neck stood up as he struggled up the stairs, feeling the lady’s presence the entire time.

So, who is the Pink Lady? Some suggest she could be Zelda Fitzgerald, the wife of the famous author F. Scott Fitzgerald. Others say the woman is not Fitzgerald but a woman who stayed in the hotel during a rendezvous with her lover. One theory is that her married lover called off the affair, causing her to feel so much heartache that she fell two stories from the fifth floor to the third, or worse, she was given a helping hand into the afterlife.

No one will ever know what led to her demise that night. Was she a jilted lover and given a farewell push into eternity? Or is the Pink Lady someone more famous? Only one person knows for sure, and she isn’t talking.

If you love historic places and enjoy the finer things in life, the Omni Grove Park Inn is the place. It is one of the many places for which Asheville is arguably most known.
