The Ghostly Westin Poinsett in Greenville

Guests staying at the Westin Poinsett in Greenville, South Carolina, have reported encountering an older gentleman with a black coat in their rooms, only for him to vanish seconds later. Some have even experienced another ghostly specter in the hallways.

The circa 1925 luxury hotel was built atop the former site of the Mansion House Hotel. The 12-story Poinsett, once home to John C. Calhoun, had its last gasp in 1987 and was essentially shuttered. Thirteen years and a hefty renovation later, the Westin Poinsett enjoyed a rousing reincarnation, and business has been booming ever since.

It appears that two lifelong, non-paying residents decided to keep the party going into the afterlife. One figure has been spotted staring out from a third-floor window at spectators below and appears in hotel rooms while playing Peek-A-Boo. Just before he disappears, he removes his black coat. If you find one during your stay, please don’t take it to the lost and found. He’ll be back for it soon enough.

Another apparition, spotted around the hotel, has been reported to vanish around hallway corners with knocks continuing on the walls after it has disappeared. Some believe one of the ghosts is Calhoun himself, but there is no evidence to support this claim.
