The Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, is a must-see for its unparalleled beauty and luxury. It features 250 rooms, 43 bathrooms, 65 fireplaces, 35 bedrooms, and an indoor pool, making it the largest private residence in the United States. It is also known for its secret passageways. The place seems to have a life of its own, with several long-term residents who continue to keep watch over it.
The pool area is one of the most haunted on the grounds, causing visitors anxiety, nausea, and a sense of dread, as well as hearing the occasional laughter emanating from the drain. It doesn’t stop there. Despite lively crowds on one end, you can swear there are parties just around the corner on the other side, only to be met with complete silence, with nobody present.
Former employees have reported seeing the dead walking the halls and outside in the gardens. People claim they can hear Edith Vanderbilt calling out for her husband, George Vanderbilt, and some have even reported feeling his presence in the Billiard Room, thought to be one of his favorite spots, with a hidden door behind the “Child with an Orange” painting. When confronting current employees at the Biltmore Estate about ghosts, they will outright refuse to discuss it.
The Biltmore Estate was officially opened to friends and family in 1895 by the Vanderbilt family. George unexpectedly passed away following an appendectomy in 1914, leaving everything he owned to Edith and his child, Cornelia.
Today, the mansion is open to the public for touring and lodging. Have you ever experienced the specters at The Biltmore Estate?
