Many stories still circulate about the infamous Blackbeard, who once sailed the Atlantic and the inlets along the eastern coast. But did you know that the famed and feared pirate has an island named after him?
Today, the Blackbeard Island NWR is a 5,618-acre island paradise that is only accessible by boat, but is treasure buried here?

Many believe that Blackbeard visited the island during his reign of terror, during the “Golden Age of Piracy,” and legend suggests that he may have buried treasure somewhere on the island.
