Is Robertson Road in Brooklet near Statesboro the most haunted road or location in Georgia? Depending on who you ask, the answer to that question will vary, but according to many online sources and a few books, such as Ghosts of the South, the answer is a definite yes.
Brooklet is located in Bulloch County, and the road even has a disturbing nickname to go along with its reputation – the locals call it the Old Ghost Road.
The approximate one-mile road has tales that would make a northbound train turn south on a dime. Drivers on this stretch of road have reported seeing a flashing light in the distance. As they approach the light, a man with a shovel, displaying an angry facial expression, as if digging his own grave, suddenly becomes visible to onlookers. Some say that when you pass through the mysterious orange light, the digging man will reappear. Another variation of the legend states that if you watch the man long enough, he will approach your car angrily and then disappear into thin air.
An old cemetery sits on the Old Ghost Road, which is also believed to be haunted. People who have walked through it have reported seeing ghostly dogs digging up their masters’ graves.
The legend of this road is enough to scare the soul straight out of your body.
