One cemetery in Iva has a reputation for being haunted by a resident specter that allegedly follows visitors.
It is alleged that a male figure can be spotted around sunset walking among the graves at the Iva City Cemetery. Legend says the apparition walks behind you until you glance over your shoulder, and then it vanishes. Some have claimed to have seen him from their vehicle as they passed. Author Tally Johnson writes about this specter in his “Ghosts of the South Carolina Upcountry” book.
No one knows who the man is, but the next time you happen to be in the area and feel someone is looking at you from nearby, it’s a good possibility that the spirit is up to his old games.
