One bridge rumored to be haunted is the Caroleen Broad River Bridge in Caroleen, North Carolina.
We write many articles on haunted bridges, but this one stands out because it was said to be the site of numerous fatal accidents, and several people met an untimely death here when they committed suicide.
One legend says two elderly women were driving home when their car went over the side, killing both instantly. Some online sources suggest they were sisters.
According to Sherman Carmichael in his Mysterious Tales of Western North Carolina, they appear on the anniversary night of their death and appear walking toward their home, which was a short distance from the bridge.
Another tale says they will appear on rainy nights, get into your vehicle if you are brave enough to stop to offer a ride to two senior citizens, and then disappear from your back seat.
Sherman also says another ghostly lady walks this bridge at night and is said to vanish when you stop.
