This Beautiful Eleven-Room Charleston Hotel is Home to Two Famous Ghosts

The Holy City has plenty of activities to keep you occupied, including ghost tours, museums, and eateries. Be on the lookout, as we will soon release a video featuring the top things to do in Charleston, hosted by Sheri Taylor of Southern Escapades.

With everything Charleston offers, you will surely need to spend more than a few days in the city. One place is renowned for its southern charm and hospitality, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere for travelers seeking a relaxing stay. Some may know the luxurious 20 South Battery by another name, the Battery Carriage House Inn.

It was built in 1843 as a private mansion but now serves the public as an eleven-room boutique Charleston hotel, located across from White Point Gardens. In 1718, Stede Bonnet, a well-known pirate, and his crew were hanged in White Point Gardens.

20 South Battery is the perfect getaway destination while in town. If you do decide to book here, please ask for rooms 8 or 10, as they have an extra flavor of paranormal activity added on top. The historic structure is home to two well-known specters, the headless torso and the gentleman ghost, according to people who have encountered them.

It is believed that the gentleman ghost was once a member of one of the families who used to own the house and killed himself by jumping off the roof into the afterlife.

The apparition of the headless torso appears to be from the days of the Civil War, when the Battery was an artillery installation. During the four-year war, houses in the area were damaged, and people died from injuries like dismemberment.

Today, 20 South Battery is a majestic piece of Southern history that continues to tell the tale of old Charleston.
