The Ghost Lights of Dymond City

The town of Dymond City is no more, but it was once a bustling place. It once stood near Jamesville until it slowly faded sometime in the 1930s. If you’re interested in the exact location, Dymond Hill Road can be found off NC 171, about ten miles south of Jamesville, North Carolina.

The town existed due to the Jamesville and Washington Railroad and Lumber Company. Shortly after, the company began purchasing large parcels of land, with plans to harvest the timber.

By the 1920s, most of the timber had been extracted, and other railroad lines had been built through the area for passenger service. The population quickly dwindled, and the last nail in Dymond City’s coffin was when a massive fire swept through, destroying the hotel, a school, and numerous homes.

Slowly, nature began to overtake what was left, and Dymond City became a distant memory.

Travelers along the old road that had once led past the City began reporting mysterious ghostly lights that could be seen dancing and moving through the thick woods and brush.

Some said the lights resembled lanterns moving up and down along the path of the old railroad tracks, while others compared them to fireballs bouncing off the tops of the trees.

Are the mysterious blue and orange lights one of the old railroad workers still working in the afterlife, even though the company and town no longer exist? Or are the lights the spirit of the city that once occupied this space many years ago?
