During Carolina Theatre’s many decades of operation, many odd and unexplainable things would occur inside this building at 230 N Tryon Street during rehearsals, shows, and other events. Lights would flicker and malfunction, causing props to move and break, and bangs echoed from the empty projection room.
Even when the stranger got even stranger, all you had to do was yell, “Knock it off, Fred! And the havoc would stop.
The historic building is reportedly haunted by a spirit named Fred. Fred has been seen sitting in the seats, and when the Carolina Theatre was at its peak, many staff members saw a white aura seated in the stands.
