The Historic and Reportedly Haunted Brookstown Inn

For whatever reason, we don’t cover historic hotels enough. When we do, the articles don’t get shared, but today is a new day.

One hotel in Winston Salem, North Carolina, near Old Winston, has a reputation for being…drumroll, please!…HAUNTED!

The historic Brookstown Inn dates back to circa 1837 and has quite a storied past. Originally established as a cotton mill, it was notorious for its harsh working conditions, which included the employment of child workers. Like the countless other textile mills I have written about, it has a history of several fatalities.

Some believe the fourth floor is the most active. It even has a resident specter named Sally, who got into an altercation with a former employee and punched a one-way ticket to the afterlife when she tumbled down the elevator shaft.

Room 401 is also said to be a hotspot, as it once served as the dormitory for some of the laborers at the cotton mill. People have reportedly heard footsteps, child spirits, and laughter. Another specter said to walk the halls is Eddie’s ghost, notorious for taking heavy steps in vacant rooms.
