Highway 11 in Greenville County is a beautiful scenic route with panoramic mountain views. I was here today, searching for another ghostly tale.
Legend says that on the Greenville County side of the border, just before you enter Pickens County, an old, gnarled tree exists somewhere in this vicinity. The story claims that a witch was buried there around the time of the Civil War or even a little before. It is said that the tree rarely blooms, animals avoid it at all costs, and any leaves that should fall from it never touch the ground underneath.
The exact location of this mysterious tree is unknown, but if you happen to be in this area, don’t look for it, as I did. And if you do see it, stay as far away as possible.
