The Lake Shawnee Amusement Park is now a defunct amusement park near Princeton, in Mercer County, West Virginia, but when it was operational, many accidental deaths occurred inside. Many believe the park was cursed because it was built on what is considered “cursed land.”
The land on which the amusement park was built was the site of a massacre in which two children from the Clay family were murdered by Native Americans in 1783, and the third was kidnapped. Some reports indicate the third member of the family was kidnapped and lost, while others suggest that the third Clay family member also died.
In 1926, the amusement park opened, but soon tragedy began to grip Lake Amusement Park, when several people died from freak accidents, including a swing ride incident, and a drowning in the swimming pool, when a young child’s arm got stuck in a drain pipe.
By 1966, Lake Shawnee Amusement Park had closed its doors to the public, and the land remained dormant for decades until the 1980s, when it was purchased and reopened. The park finally closed for the last time in 1988.
Some today believe the ghostly park is one of the most haunted places in America.
