Right outside of Bowling Green, Kentucky, a tragic train derailment occurred in the early 1900s along the tracks of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad. Today, it is referred to as the old L&N line, near the site of the crash.
According to local lore, a passenger train was barreling down the tracks late one foggy night when it derailed in a sharp curve, killing several passengers and crew members. Soon after, people began seeing a phantom train along the same route, speeding down the rails in the afterlife.

Witnesses describe hearing the sound of a steam engine, the clanking of metal, and the screeching of brakes. Others have observed seeing the outline of a fully lit passenger train that vanishes into thin air.
The best time to observe the ghost train is on a foggy night and on the anniversary of the derailment.
One person who observed it saw it pass through a crossing, only for it to disappear. The only thing that lingered in the air was the smell of burning coal.
