The Ghostly Woman of Old Richardsville Road Bridge

The Old Richardsville Road Bridge in Bowling Green, Kentucky, dates back to the 1800s and has developed a reputation over the years for being haunted by a ghostly woman.

No one knows who the young woman is, since the bridge has been in existence for a very long time, but some believe the woman was driven to shame over an unplanned pregnancy, and she decided to end her life at that spot.

Like many of the ghost stories I have covered, there are multiple versions of the tale. Another says the woman was driving during a bad storm one night, and she went off the bridge and drowned.

Many deaths have occurred at the site since the bridge first opened in the 1970s due to drownings.

Whomever the ghostly woman is, she is said to be friendly. Typically, people wait until nighttime hours to drive to the middle of the bridge. Once there, place a rose on the windshield, and put your vehicle in neutral. The spirit will remove the rose from your windshield and will push your vehicle the remaining distance across.

The legend also says that you can visit on stormy days and nights.
