Secrets in the Swamp: Part 1

Korrina Lynne Sagers Malinoski was a hard-working mother who worked at the Oasis convenience store in Summerville when she mysteriously disappeared in November of 1987, just before Thanksgiving. Korrina always arrived on time on her scheduled days to work, despite taking care of her two toddler boys and her 10-year-old daughter, Annette.

So, when Korrina failed to show one day, it caused her boss to drive out to her house on the Mount Holly Plantation to check on her. When he arrived, he found the gate locked, and Kori’s car was inside the gate, which was coated in dew.

Kori’s boss walked to the house, where her husband, Steven, stated that the pair had a fight last night, and she left. The man from the convenience store pointed out that Kori’s car was still in the driveway, and he said, “Oh my gosh, let me call the Sheriff’s Office.”

Reportedly, that was just the start of many stories that investigators said Kori’s husband told them over the years.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office worked the case as a missing persons case, even though some things didn’t add up. It was also reported that Steven and Kori didn’t have the best relationship. Furthermore, it was reported that Kori’s car leaked transmission fluid so severely that you could almost trace her vehicle by the fluid, which would lend to the fact that she never got into that vehicle that night.

Kori was never found, and now, three children were without a mother.

Korrina and Steve had moved to the Lowcountry of South Carolina when he was hired to be a caretaker on Mount Holly Plantation. The family lived in a cabin-style house with a long curvy driveway, surrounded by hundreds of acres of swampland nearby.

What happened to Korrina, also known as Kori? Little did investigators know that they would be back at the same residence less than a year later, for another missing person report.

Korrina was 26 years old at the time of her disappearance and would be 64 today. If you know her whereabouts, you’re encouraged to contact the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office at 843-719-4465.
