The phantom hiker of Clingmans Dome is similar to the story of the ghostly hiker of Grandfather’s Mountain, but has a slight variation between the tales. Clingmans Dome is the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, standing at 6,643 feet.

The legend states that a hiker, named Jacob, disappeared on the trails during a severe, freak snowstorm many years ago. It is said on rainy days that people have claimed to encounter his restless spirit trudging through the fog, with his old hiking gear and tattered clothing.
He appears to be still searching for his way home, even in death.
(Note) I’m not sure if this is more of a local legend tale, since not much is available online.
