The Ghostly Girl on Highway 5

The ghostly girl or woman of Highway 5 in Lynn is one of Alabama’s most well-known ghostly tales. Most of the time, these legends are created throughout the years to scare teenagers who are looking for a quick scare during the fall of the year, but this story checks out by the number of people who have claimed to have encountered her along this stretch of road.

It is said that years ago, a young girl was returning home from prom with her boyfriend, when they got into an altercation. She got out of the vehicle somewhere along the way, but never made it back to her house. The next day, her lifeless body was found in a ditch.

Others think the girl was involved in a traffic accident there, which is why she is stuck, which may be a more logical tale between the two.

It is said that if you’re driving late at night, coming from Jasper or heading to Haleyville, and see a pale-skinned girl standing, with long black hair on the side of the highway, looking for a ride, you may want to keep driving.

It’s almost like she’s heading to prom or even worse, a funeral.

Local truck drivers have stated that she will appear in the passenger seat without a sound. Others have said that she asks for help, but vanishes just before reaching the city limits.

Another motorist in 2003 claimed the girl touched her hand and whispered, ‘Don’t go where I went.”

Another was encountered around 12:40 a.m. on a return trip from Jasper. That person was driving with the windows down when they saw her standing beside the road, and floored it until they saw the lights of Lynn.

The ghostly girl of Highway 5 is a story that is worth the drive.
