The 1993 Be-Lo Grocery Store Murders

On Sunday, June 6, 1993, a black male was hidden inside an eastern North Carolina grocery store in Windsor, North Carolina. Around 6:15 p.m. that evening, the culprit, who was already hiding in the store, waiting for it to close, took six hostages after employees closed for the night. The man took everyone to the back, reportedly bound them together with gray duct tape inside the Be-Lo grocery store, in Bertie County.

What followed was brutal. He fired into the piles of people, ultimately killing three of the victims. A fourth victim was shot; a fifth victim was stabbed; both were left for dead. The sixth victim was not injured.

Three people lost their lives, and six families were forever impacted for $3,324 on that June evening. The case remains unsolved.
