Greenwood Cemetery, located on Greenwood Road in Chattanooga, is reportedly home to “The Lady of the Lake.”
Legend has it that years ago, a woman lived in a large house on the ridge across from the lake near Greenwood Cemetery. The lady was married and had fallen ill; eventually, she became confined to a wheelchair. Her husband began to see another woman and had plotted a plan to get rid of his disabled wife for good.
One evening, he pushed her down to the lake and pushed the woman and her wheelchair into it.
Some believe that she appears in Greenwood Cemetery as a green mist, while at other times, you can see wheelchair tracks on the ground.
