In Late December of 1981, Rhonda Hinson of Valdese, just nineteen years old at the time, was fatally shot inside her car in Burke County, North Carolina, while traveling towards Valdese on I-40 West to the Mineral Springs Mountain Road exit. Hinson was reportedly leaving a Christmas Party that she had attended earlier that night.
Almost 44 years later, her case remains cold, and the shooter responsible for Hinson’s death and the murder weapon have never been found.

A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible.
Like the many other cold cases that we have written about, someone out there knows something.
If you have information to bring Rhonda Hinson’s family and friends closure, please call the Burke County Sheriff’s tip line at (828) 764-9549
