The South Carolina State Museum (The Ghost of Bubba)

Well, this Bubba didn’t exactly shoot a jukebox but instead took a freight elevator to the head, decapitating him in the process. The South Carolina State Museum in Columbia is a great place to visit, with a ton of history. Many people may not realize it, but the best piece of history can be the building itself. It was constructed in the late 1800s and was the world’s first electric-powered mill. The mill finally closed in 1981, with the building donated to the state.

The large freight elevator, used when the mill was still operational, transported cotton to specific floors. One day, an employee was looking down the shaft, thinking the elevator was below him. However, it wasn’t, and it was actually above him. Before he realized it, the large elevator came smashing down on his head, killing him instantly.

Employees reported seeing a ghost on the third floor when the museum opened. He was affectionately nicknamed Bubba and was often seen dressed in overalls and boots, wandering about the exhibits inside.

He has been spotted on the third floor, near the schoolhouse on the fourth floor, near the hearse, disappearing into walls, and getting onto the elevator. Many have heard a bell ringing when no one was around.

Today, Bubba continues to work the graveyard shift, dying to meet new visitors.
