The Sorrow Soldier of Wilmington

Wilmington, North Carolina, dates back to February 20, 1739, and offers a rich history and a number of haunted locations. According to an article released by the Wilmington Star News on October 14, 2022, one building is reportedly home to the “Sorrow Soldier.”

The story goes that against the wall of Port City Pottery, there have been accounts of a ghostly man dressed in a dark blue uniform with a gold braid across his chest. Reportedly, the mysterious apparition appears to those who can see and hear it.

Another tale says that one day, he pushed against a person wishing “to tell someone his sorrowful plight.” The specter wanted to know why people walked past him, holding a weird device against their ears, and could hear voices but not him.

Another time, an employee of the business allegedly felt pressure on her ear and the side of her face, as if he was trying to communicate with her.
