Uptown Charlotte has many places rumored to be haunted, including the Dunhill Hotel and the Carolina Theatre, among others. However, one of the more mysterious ones that often gets overlooked is the McGlohon Theater, located at 345 N. College Street.
The historic building was featured in Author Kala Ambrose’s 2011 book, “Ghosthunting North Carolina,” where staff members reportedly told her they had heard a ghost singing in the building, accompanied by the sounds of people walking the floors after hours.
It was once built to house the congregation of the First Baptist Church in the early 1900s, around 1909, but the church reportedly abandoned the structure in the 1970s. It was scheduled to be demolished, but a citizens’ group rallied to save it.
The McGlohon is currently closed.
