Columbia is full of history and paranormal hotspots. One such place, rumored to be haunted and full of specters, is the old Olympia Mill at 510 Heyward Street. Just like Hotel California, where you can check in anytime you like, but you can never leave, the same is said about the old mill.

Olympia Mills was constructed in 1899 and closed its doors for the last time in 1996. In the early days of the sweatshop, child labor with adults powered the cotton mill. Unfortunately, some children perished under the work conditions or became permanently disfigured due to machinery.
Today, the mill serves primarily as apartments for the University of South Carolina students, but the spirits of the children are said to roam the halls. People have reported sounds of children crying and screaming, and have seen small handprints appear in windows on foggy nights.
