The Ghost of Maude Williams Works Overtime in the Afterlife

The Sibley Mill is a historic building on the Augusta Canal near downtown Augusta, Georgia. It was built in 1880 on the same site as the old Powder Works buildings, with the same bricks.

During the Civil War, one of the most important industries was the production of gunpowder in factories, such as the Confederate Powder Works in Georgia.

.While that is fascinating history, the building is not haunted by the spirits of those who lost their lives in the war, but rather by a woman who was a victim of domestic violence on October 20, 1906.

According to Alan Brown in his Haunted Georgia book, Maude Williams worked in the weaving department in the textile mill when her lover, Arthur Glover, barged into the mill and killed her.

Not long after the murder, workers began seeing her ghost walking past the weaving machine room when the room was empty. New employees who tried speaking to the spirit were shocked when she would not acknowledge their presence.

It sounds as if Maude is working overtime in the afterlife.
