Is This Former North Carolina Hospital Haunted

The historic Ashe County Hospital, located at 410 McConnell Street in Jefferson, North Carolina, is no longer operational as a medical facility. It now serves a different purpose after the hospital was closed many years ago.

Author Sherman Carmichael writes about the old hospital on page 139 of his book, Mysterious Tales of Western North Carolina. In 2016, it was approved to turn the grounds into low-income housing for seniors.

Hospitals are often life-saving institutions, but sometimes, people do transition to the afterlife during their stays.

Carmichael indicates that the building has undergone many paranormal investigations and is known to be a hotbed for ghostly activity.

People have reportedly heard shouting and the ding of an elevator, disembodied voices that sound like doctors and patients talking, seen strange mists and orbs, and experienced temperature changes.
