The Little Red Man

One of the more famous ghost stories from Winston-Salem is The Little Red Man. The story begins almost 250 years ago inside the Single Brothers House, where single men lived.

One resident, Andreas Kremser, was a small-stature lad with quite the reputation for being reckless and a prankster among the men of the home.

Chores, such as cleaning and other labor-intensive tasks, were often assigned to Kremser to keep him busy. Around 1786, Kremser was asked to dig a cellar underneath the house, but tragedy soon hit when the ground gave way, covering Kremser in a grave. He was eventually pulled from the grounds, barely hanging onto life, but would ultimately succumb to his injuries and be buried in God’s Acre.

After his passing, strange things began to happen inside the home. Kremser was a shoemaker by trade, and people claimed to hear a shoemaker’s hammer tapping, while others claimed to have seen the small man dressed in red floating.

Throughout the years, the brothers began attributing anything in the house to the Little Red Man since he was dressed in red when he met an untimely death.
