This North Carolina legend is the only train track haunt that does not involve a train smashing over a head or even an actual train. In the early 1900s, a young man rode his horse from Greenville to Pactolus to surprise his fiancée as she got off the train.
Sadly, the man never made it to greet her at the station. He caught the attention of three men walking along the tracks. The group ambushed and killed him, hiding his body in nearby woods. His horse became frightened and took off, returning to Greenville two days later. Unfortunately, the family never found his body.

The train tracks are long gone, but their specter still haunts the area. He is said to appear as a glowing orb, floating at waist level, as if walking beside his horse.
Legend says the ghost lights are letting his fiancée know he is there, looking for her.
