The Beast of Bladenboro

The Beast of Bladenboro began in the winter of 1953-1954 when an alarming number of dead livestock and animal mutilations surfaced in Bladenboro, North Carolina, putting residents on heightened alert.

The animals were found with their jaws either broken or removed, with blood drained from their bodies, with witnesses describing the beast as a panther or large cat, wreaking havoc on everything it encountered, with residents banding together to kill the predator.
Its identity was never confirmed and was never captured. For fifty years, the Beast of Bladenboro sat quietly with no new attacks until 2006, when the creature appeared again to feed.

Every year, the folks of Bladenboro commemorate their famous legend with a festival.
