This Old Abbeville South Carolina Cemetery is Said to Be Haunted

Abbeville County is the second most haunted county in the state, behind Charleston. Every time we turn around, a new place appears with reported ghostly activity. Abbeville is packed with history and is known as the birthplace of the Confederacy and as the deathbed of the Confederacy.

One cemetery, Upper Long Cane Cemetery, located on Greenville Street Extension, serves as the final resting place for over 2,000 bodies, with the first burial dating back to the mid-to-late 1700s.

While the old cemetery is out of sight for many, as it is not among the more well-known hauntings in the state, it is certainly active, according to some. People have encountered the apparition of a balding man wearing a blazer. No one seems to know his name, but it is safe to say that he is a current resident who continues to dress sharply in the afterlife.

Given the long track record of Abbeville, it’s no surprise to find a few hidden haunted gems across the county.
