The Haunted Bethesda Cemetery & Church

This haunted church and cemetery in eastern Tennessee is thought to have it all…well, at least in the paranormal circle of the world.

Bethesda Cemetery and Church in Morristown are tied to several ghostly legends. Several Confederate specters have been reported both inside and outside the church. The spirits that are said to haunt the cemetery are a bit more aggressive.

The church was built in 1835, 31 years before the Civil War. Legend says if a northern accent is spoken in the cemetery, it will likely provoke one of the Rebel ghosts that still patrol the grounds. Even better, the visitor may experience the hand of a mysterious, unseen force.

Others have heard the sound of a weeping mother from the cemetery, while others have heard a baby crying in the distance late at night. The child is said to have died during infancy due to disease in the 1800s.

Another tale says a local lady buried at the cemetery was thought to have been a witch. Some have even reported strange noises arising from her grave, including scratching and violent thrashing from inside.
