Pisgah Covered Bridge at 6925 Pisgah Covered Bridge Road in Asheboro is one of North Carolina’s two remaining covered bridges. According to author Sherman Carmichael in his book Mysterious Tales of the North Carolina Piedmont, it is also haunted.
According to Carmichael, the Pisgah Covered Bridge was built in 1911 but was destroyed during a massive flood in 2003, and it was later rebuilt using 90 percent of the original materials.
Supposedly, in the 1920s, an unknown man died a gruesome death here. On certain nights, you can see the apparition of the man who met his fate here many years ago, hanging from the rafters.
Sherman states in the book that the bridge is open only during daylight hours.
