We are staying in Western North Carolina, preparing for our podcast, which will launch in a few weeks with Izzy and me. We will cover all things Carolina, including the paranormal, the unexplained, history, mysteries, weird attractions, and folklore.
The Phantom Hiker of Grandfather Mountain is a spooky tale, and he is said to be an older man, bearded with a rough appearance, dressed in old-fashioned workman’s clothes from the Twentieth Century. He wears a rough canvas army backpack and carries a long walking stick.

The Phantom Hiker appears in the evening, never saying a word, and will never acknowledge any greeting. He walks along the trails, moving swiftly ahead of anyone he encounters, and then vanishes into thin air.
Some believe his spirit is of a hiker who became lost in the thick woods around the mountain and never made his way out. Others have said he was a man who loved the mountain so much that he decided to spend eternity in the North Carolina backcountry.
