Hear the Haunted Guitar Riffs from a Famous Musician in this Town

The Sarah Riley Hooks House is a reported haunted dwelling with a dark past in Bluffton, South Carolina. Sarah was a retired nurse and the daughter of a prominent Bluffton family. Her son, Anthony Earl John “Toney” Hooks, became a famous guitarist for Sly and the Family Stone and the Ohio Players, until his death at 32 years old in 1988.

In the early morning hours, Tony answered knocks on the door and was shot in the chest. A high-speed chase led to the arrest of a suspect in the fatal shooting in Savannah. Hooks later died at the hospital. Several rumors surfaced about what led to the incident, but the motive or weapon was never recovered.

The house has been neglected through the years, but it’s alleged that during high tide on a full moon, you can hear the faint sounds of Toney playing his guitar from the Old Town Bluffton’s Bridge Street.
