Is the Civil War Still Being Fought on This North Carolina Bridge

The Haunted South Queen Street Bridge over the Neuse River in Kinston, Nort Carolina, once called the Frederick Jones Bridge, was the site of a Civil War skirmish in 1862, when Confederate soldiers burned it as a last-ditch effort to prevent the burning of a more significant bridge in Goldsboro and to keep the Union Army from replenishing supplies.

According to history, their plan fell short as many Confederate soldiers were captured, wounded, or killed from being trapped on the riverbank during the blaze.

Many have experienced paranormal activity here, including the sounds of men screaming, “Stop the fire,” and the sounds of water splashing, with battle noises. Others have reported apparitions on or near the bridge.
